Since its establishment in 2008, EASN has successfully developed and delivered the following projects in collaboration with its partners:

• The Interreg IVB North West Europe funded project ENEVATE (2010 - December 2014).
  

ENEVATE aims at facilitating and supporting an accelerated and well informed introduction of electric mobility in Northwestern Europe (N) by  promoting a structured transnational co-operation between public authorities and business representatives.

In doing so the project is targeted at boosting innovation and competitiveness in the rapidly developing electric vehicle sector in NWE and at the same time at contributing to the urgent environmental challenge of reducing CO2 emissions. Both expertise and technology  combined in local actions will lead to a reduction of carbon emissions and an improvement of infrastructure in the long-term. 

For this purpose the ENEVATE project is aims at the promotion of electric road vehicles, energy infrastructure, and integrated mobility concepts Their potentials are demonstrated by pilot projects which also help to enable further actors.

EASN initiated the ENEVATE project und supported it until its finalisation. Together with the project partners Regionalmanagement Nordhessen, Cardiff University, Bayern Innovativ, Future Transport Systems, AutomotiveNL and many others knowledge and experience were brought into practice.

Key outcomes of the ENEVATE project included the Electric Infrastructure Took Kit alongside a Road Map and Policy Recommendations for E-Mobility as well as the support and implementation of new mobility concepts like E-car Sharing Program in Limburg NL and in Bavaria Germany.

EASN has initiated and developed the project from the beginning. EASN brought the idea and the partnership together. Additional to the initiation, development and support the project leader, EASN also was deeply involved in the content of the project. EASN, Regionalmanagement Nordhessen, Cardiff University and FIER worked intensively together during the finalisation of the project, by bringing all relevant developed content together into a Road Map and Policy Recommendations for E-Mobility.

As a result of the outcomes of ENEVATE, EASN brought the build knowledge and experience into practice. Within the project, EASN worked together with Future Transport Systems on the development of the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Tool Kit, which was later enhanced by EASN in cooperation with FIER Automotive for the application in less dense populated areas.. The Tool Kit is applied by EASN in multiple regions in The Netherlands by supporting governments and organisations in the development of a strategic, future proof charging infrastructure in less dense populated areas. Additional to these developments EASN also introduced a E-car Sharing Program in the province of Limburg.

• The Atlantic Area funded project BATTERIE (2012-December 2014)BATTERIE is an EU Atlantic Area project established in January 2012.

Its purpose is to improve the co-operation and links between various transport services within the Atlantic Area region and to promote the application of smart technologies and usage of alternative fuels. It is realized in cooperation with twelve other full partners and two further associate partners of the Atlantic Area Region, i.e. the UK, Ireland, Scotland, France, Spain and Portugal.

The main objective of BATTERIE is the introduction of smart technologies (e.g. E-Journey Planning) and alternative fuels.  Next to that, respective scenarios and models of policy changes are developed alongside with models of changes in behaviour and in transnational strategies in order to help optimise transnational trips for passengers.

Other activities include screening and modelling the availability, future development, costs and environmental impact of using smart technologies and alternative fuels.  Also pilot networks and demonstrations of best practice in this sector are initiated. One of the key outcomes of the BATTERIE project is the web based EV journey planner tool which has been developed by the partner South West Collage (Northern Ireland): http://egomap.eu/.

EASN was one of the initiating partnersof the BATTERIE project. From the beginning on it ensured support for the project leader Action Renewables and took responsibility for the communication flow within the project.

• The Interreg IVB North West Europe funded project NISTO (May 2013 – December 2015)

The main goal of NISTO is the development of an evaluation and planning toolkit for mobility projects which can be applied transnationally by planners. As transnational evaluation and planning standards five (success) factors make out the core elements of the toolkit: mobility, customer satisfaction, environmental quality, safety and economy.  All in all, partners out of seven NEW-countries work together in this project.

So far the NISTO-project has reached its halfway point. At the midterm-conference in Brussels in November 2014 best practices of pilot projects and planning methods were presented as well as future requirements for intelligent mobility planning. Also the future steps in the project were defined.

The inclusion of stakeholder expertise is an essential feature of the NISTO-project. From November until December 2014 all project partners have carried out stakeholder workshops. In the course of these workshops the concept of the NISTO-toolkit was presented to the stakeholders and valuable feedback was won for its further development. Early in 2015 the toolkit will be tested through demonstrative projects in every project-region. During the summer months it will be finalised. At the final conference in November 2015 it will be presented in its final version.

• Via its partner FIER Automotive, EASN is involved in the IEE funded project, I-CVUE.

The challenge facing Europe to reduce green house gas (GHG) emissions is considerable. Increasing the proportion of electric vehicles (EVs) in the vehicle fleet is a viable solution. Incentivisation is one approach to increasing the number of EVs on the road. The present system of incentivisation is highly contextualised with incentives being conceived and tested based on national and local requirements. This makes learning and exchange of best practice across EU borders difficult. To resolve this problem, the approach was taken to develop a methodology that would establish the transferability of best practice across European borders. FIER and Cardiff worked together with the input from other partners to compare a number of European city regions based on the PESTLE framework. The results of this comparison highlight both similarities and differences between the regions in relation to the potential for EV uptake based on incentivisation. As part of the next steps, expert opinion will be used to establish and weight causal links between incentivisation and EV uptake to create a regional network analyses. This knowledge will then be transferred to a computer model that will be used to advise on future policy decisions. This work is part of the on-going i-CVUE project funded by Intelligent Energy Europe.

• EU presence

From 2008 up-to-now, EASN has been liaising with relevant European associations as well as with the European Parliament and the European Commission. Thereby the conducted projects as well as their results have been put through to the relevant policy makers in Brussels.

Apart from several mid-term and final events in Brussels, EASN has organised for example in 2013 and 2014 receptions in the EU parliament building, hosted by the parliament members Mr. Bernd Lange and Mr. Lambert van Nistelrooij.

These two successful events about electric mobility EU-projects were well attended by both project partners as well as policy makers from the various countries and EU officials.

Next to the receptions EASN supported the EEVC (European Electric Vehicle Congress) in organising the EU project day.
